چکیده

This chapter discusses how autonomous agents can adopt organizational rules into their reasoning process. Agents in an organization need to coordinate their actions in order to reach the organizational goals. Organizational models specify the desired behaviour in terms of roles, relations, norms, and interactions. We have developed a method to translate norms into event-processing rules of the agents. We propose a modular reasoning model that includes the organizational rules explicitly. Since the agents are autonomous, they will have their own reasoning rules next to the organizational rules. The modular approach allows for meta-reasoning about these rules. We show that this stimulates bottom-up dynamics in the organization.

Organizations and Autonomous Agents: Bottom-Up Dynamics of Coordination Mechanisms

Agents in an organization need to coordinate their actions in order to reach the organizational goals. Organizational models specify the desired behaviour in terms of roles, relations, norms and interactions. In this research, we show how organizational rules can be adopted by autonomous agents. We have developed a method to translate norms into reasoning rules for agents. However, since the ag...

Commitments Among Autonomous Agents in Information-Rich Environments

Commitments are crucial to understanding and designing autonomous agents and multiagent systems. We propose a deenition of commitments that applies especially well to agents in information-rich applications, such as electronic commerce and virtual enterprises. Our approach has a number of important features, including { not gratuitously translating social concepts to psychological concepts { di...

AORTA: adding organizational reasoning to agents

Open systems are characterized by a diversity of heterogeneous and autonomous agents that act according to private goals, and with a behavior that is hard to predict. They can be regulated through organizations similar to human organizations, which regulate the agents’ behavior space and describe the expected behavior of the agents. Agents need to be able to reason about the regulations, so tha...

Organizations and Normative Agents

The overall behavior of multiagent systems can be controlled by designing agent organizations and allowable interactions between autonomous and goal directed agents such as 3APL agents. The rules of behavior for individual agents are described using concepts from organization theories such as roles and norms. In this paper, a framework for agent organization is discussed and its related concept...

A Causal Framework for Intelligent Agents and Multiagent Systems

Automation of organizational processes that make intensive use of expert knowledge has on the intelligent agent paradigm an appropriate metaphor. The idea would be introducing autonomous agents carrying out tasks on behalf of human users in organizational processes. Knowledge transference from experts to autonomous agents has been treated on different ways taking advantage of more than 20 years...
